Russell Young, an American-British Pop artist, is renowned for creating large-scale silkscreen paintings that depict cultural icons. Young pursued his artistic education at Chester Art College and Exeter College of Art, where he focused on studying graphic design, drawing, film, and photography. After moving to London to work as a photographer’s assistant, he discovered opportunities in the world of commercial photography. With his growing reputation for capturing images of celebrities, Young eventually made his way to Los Angeles, where he started directing music videos. In the 1990s, Young’s artistic interests shifted from photography to painting. This led him to relocate to New York in 2000. It was in 2003 that Young gained significant attention from the art world with his series titled “Pig Portraits.” These silk screens featured celebrity mugshots and provided a commentary on the darker aspects of fame. Currently, Young divides his time between Los Angeles and New York, where he continues to live and work.
